High Desert Trails Shawlette - Pattern by Francoise Danoy
I’m thrilled to introduce the High Desert Shawlette, a brand-new pattern inspired by a memorable moment in Santa Fe. This design came to life when I spotted a cushioned bench in a hotel lobby, with bold red, white, and black stripes that immediately sparked my creativity. That striking combination of heathered black-and-white flow and solid colors was something I had to recreate in knit form!
The High Desert Shawlette captures this essence with its bold, asymmetrical shape and simple intarsia design. Worked in garter stitch, it’s a calming, rhythmic project that offers just the right amount of challenge and artistry. To make the design even more personal, I’ve included a coloring page so you can play around with different color combinations before casting on. Whether you envision earthy neutrals, vibrant pops of color, or subtle gradients, this shawlette lets you bring your unique color vision to life.
This pattern has something special for every knitter:
For the Artisan, it’s a chance to explore a design inspired by the Southwest’s beauty, with endless options for creative color play.
For the Altruist, it’s a quick, straightforward project that makes a perfect, heartfelt gift.
For the Alchemist, it offers a meditative journey, with soothing garter stitches that invite calm and focus.
For the Auteur, the shawlette becomes a canvas for artistic expression, with the coloring page serving as a palette for trying out color combinations and envisioning the final piece.
